Ukraine: Kyiv poised to sign minerals deal with US

According to Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine is prepared to sign a historic mining agreement with the United States in the coming day.

Ukraine anticipates signing a long-awaited mineral deal with the United States in Washington on Wednesday, top Ukrainian officials told the news agencies AP, AFP, and Reuters earlier.

The agreement was supposed to be signed by Kyiv and Washington weeks ago, but negotiations were halted by a confrontation between US President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in the White House.

Additionally, the Kremlin claims Putin is amenable to peace with Ukraine but cautions against making a deal too quickly.

The Kremlin stated that although President Vladimir Putin is amenable to peace in Ukraine and that extensive efforts are underway with the United States, the problem is so complex that it will be challenging to make the swift progress Washington desires.

He added that although Kyiv had not yet responded, Putin has stated that he was open to direct negotiations with Ukraine.

In response to the Kremlin’s statement, Ukrainian Foreign Minister stated that if Moscow committed to an unconditional ceasefire, Ukraine was prepared for peace negotiations in whatever format.
