Pakistan Resolution Day 2025 Webinar YDF and CAP

An online International conference was jointly organized by the Youth Diplomacy Forum and Center For Alternative Perspectives on the topic of “The diminishing spirit of Pakistaniyat – suggesting the way forward for its revival to commemorate Pakistan Resolution Day. Speakers from both sides talked about Pakistaniyat, culture, traditions, languages, social cohesion, diversity, social, economic and political aspects. Founding President and CEO of the Youth Diplomacy Forum talked on the “Role of Youth in Rebuilding National Identity”.

National identity is the foundation of a country’s unity and progress. It represents a shared sense of belonging, cultural heritage, and collective aspirations. However, in Pakistan, factors such as political instability, regional and ethnic divisions, foreign influence, and social polarization have contributed to the weakening of “Pakistaniyat” a term that embodies the spirit of being Pakistani.

With over 60% of Pakistan’s population being under the age of 30, the youth hold tremendous potential to redefine and revitalize the national identity. Their participation in social, political, and economic spheres will determine Pakistan’s future trajectory.

Pakistan

One of the biggest challenges to Pakistani identity is ethnic, linguistic, and sectarian divisions. Youth can play a crucial role in bridging these gaps by:

● Rejecting Divisive Narratives: Many political and social conflicts arise due to regional and sectarian differences. Youth must advocate for a united national identity that transcends ethnic backgrounds.
● Encouraging Interfaith Harmony: Pakistan has a diverse religious landscape. Young people can promote tolerance and coexistence by actively rejecting extremism and supporting policies that ensure religious harmony.
● Celebrating Diversity as Strength: Rather than allowing differences to divide, youth should embrace cultural diversity as an asset that makes Pakistan unique and vibrant.

Civic Engagement and Social Responsibility:

A strong national identity is built when citizens actively participate in nation-building efforts. Pakistani youth can contribute through:
● Community Service & Volunteering: Helping underprivileged communities, participating in clean-up drives, literacy programs, and healthcare initiatives fosters civic responsibility.

● Spreading Awareness About National Issues: From climate change to political rights, young people must educate their communities and push for positive change.
● Promoting Ethical Practices: Youth should reject corruption, nepotism, and dishonesty in their personal and professional lives to strengthen the moral fabric of society.

Digital Media for positive impact:

Social media is a powerful tool that influences public perception and shapes national identity. Unfortunately, it is also a platform where misinformation, polarization, and negativity thrive.

Youth must:

● Use Digital Platforms to Promote National Positivity: By highlighting Pakistan’s achievements, success stories, and cultural richness, young content creators can combat negative stereotypes.
● Counter Fake News and Propaganda: Misinformation weakens national unity. Youth should promote fact-based discourse to ensure a well-informed society.
● Support Local Influencers and Brands: Encouraging Pakistani entrepreneurs, artists, and journalists helps in nation-building.

Revitalizing Culture and Heritage:

Pakistani culture is rich in traditions, arts, literature, and historical significance, yet it is often overshadowed by foreign influences.

Youth can:

● Promote Local Languages & Literature: Reviving Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, and Pashto literature will strengthen cultural identity.
● Encourage Traditional Arts & Music: Supporting folk artists, poets, and musicians helps preserve Pakistan’s cultural heritage.
● Reintroduce Historical Awareness: Youth should be aware of Pakistan’s history beyond just textbooks, actively engaging in heritage conservation.

Economic Empowerment:

Economic instability is a key factor contributing to identity crises and brain drain in Pakistan.

The youth must focus on:

● Entrepreneurship & Startups: Encouraging innovation and self-sufficiency rather than reliance on foreign markets.
● Strengthening Local Industries: Buying Made in Pakistan products supports the economy and fosters national pride.
● Skilling Up for Global Competition: Acquiring technical and vocational skills can help the youth compete in the global economy while contributing to Pakistan’s development.

Way Forward: What Needs to Be Done?

✔ Education & Awareness: Schools and universities must focus on civic education, history, and national ethics to instill Pakistaniyat from a young age.
✔ Youth Leadership Programs: Government and private sectors should create leadership platforms for young people.
✔ Strengthening Institutions: Ensuring a merit-based system will keep youth engaged in Pakistan’s progress, reducing brain drain.
✔ Collaboration Between Public & Private Sectors: A joint effort in economic empowerment, media representation, and policy-making will help Pakistan regain its strong national identity.

The young people are the present, not simply the future. The strength and unity of Pakistan tomorrow will be determined by their actions now.

Pakistani youth have the ability to revitalize and reshape their country’s identity through civic engagement, education, activism, internet impact, and entrepreneurship.

The spirit of Pakistaniyat can not only endure but flourish for many years to come if young Pakistanis welcome diversity, reject divisive myths, and make constructive contributions.
