Furthermore, since taking office in January, US President Donald Trump has often stated that Moscow and Kyiv are “very close” to reaching an agreement backed by the US.
Trump said, “A good day in talks and meetings with Russia and Ukraine,” on his Reality Social page. “They are very close to a deal, and the two sides should now meet, at very high levels, to ‘finish it off.'”
The majority of the main items had been agreed upon, the US president added.
The potential of “direct” negotiations between Russia and Ukraine was discussed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and Trump’s ambassador Steve Witkoff earlier in Moscow, according to the Kremlin.
