The Kremlin has described the recent Putin-Trump summit as a constructive step toward resolving key international disputes.
According to Russian state media reports cited by Interfax, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the U.S. President Donald Trump created an opportunity to “confidently move forward” in seeking settlement options.
“The conversation was indeed very positive, and the two presidents spoke about this,” Peskov said. “This is the very conversation that allows us to confidently move forward together along the path of searching for settlement options.”
The Alaska summit, which has drawn both praise and criticism worldwide, has been framed by Moscow as a diplomatic success.
While Democrats in Washington blasted the meeting as a public relations victory for Putin, the Kremlin highlighted it as a rare chance for dialogue amid ongoing global tensions.
The discussions reportedly focused on the conflict in Ukraine and broader U.S.-Russia relations.
However, no concrete concessions or binding agreements were announced, leading many observers to remain cautious about the prospects for any real breakthrough.
Still, Moscow emphasized the symbolic importance of the summit. By holding direct talks on American soil, the Kremlin believes both leaders signaled a willingness to seek alternatives to military escalation.
For the Kremlin, the optics of a face-to-face meeting with Trump reinforced Russia’s global standing and its ability to engage directly with Washington.
Whether this conversation leads to meaningful steps toward peace remains uncertain, but the Kremlin insists the path toward settlement has been reopened.
