Jordan’s King Abdullah II Visits Pakistan, Reinforcing Defence Partnership and Regional Cooperation

In a landmark diplomatic and military engagement, His Majesty King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and Supreme Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces, undertook a significant visit to Pakistan’s premier defence production establishment, Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS).

Accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Salma bint Abdullah II and a high-level delegation of Jordanian civilian and military officials, the visit reflected the growing strategic depth of Pakistan–Jordan relations.

Jordan Pakistan Defence Cooperation

The royal guests were received by Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, Chief of Army Staff, along with senior officers of the Pakistan Army. The visit marked an important milestone at a time when defence cooperation, regional stability, and joint technological advancement are increasingly shaping the geopolitical landscape of the Middle East and South Asia.

Showcasing Pakistan’s Defence Innovation

At GIDS, His Majesty was presented with a comprehensive briefing on:

  • Pakistan’s indigenous defence industry,
  • Advanced system capabilities,
  • Product portfolio across land, air, naval, and electronic warfare domains,
  • And Pakistan’s ongoing innovation in multi-domain operational technologies.

The presentation also highlighted potential avenues for expanding defence ties between Pakistan and Jordan, particularly in advanced systems, training, technology transfer, and joint production.

Field Exercise at Tilla Ranges: Demonstrating Multi-Domain Power

Later, King Abdullah II visited the Tilla Field Firing Ranges, where he was joined by:

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif,

HE Vugar Valeh oglu Mustafayev, Minister of Defence Industry, Azerbaijan,

Senior officials from Pakistan and Jordan.

The dignitaries witnessed an impressive joint fire and manoeuvre exercise, showcasing:

a. Integrated ground–air operations

b. Conventional and aerial firepower

c. Spectrum warfare capabilities

d. Drone-supported manoeuvres across multiple roles

His Majesty commended the professionalism and operational preparedness of Pakistan’s armed forces, acknowledging the high training standards and joint operational excellence displayed during the exercise.

Honouring Pakistan’s Military Leadership

In recognition of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir’s significant role in strengthening military cooperation, His Majesty conferred upon the COAS the Order of the Military Merit (First Degree) one of Jordan’s most prestigious military honours. The gesture symbolised both countries’ mutual respect and their commitment to advancing defence ties.

Political Leadership and Regional Vision

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep respect for King Abdullah II and highlighted the visit as a reflection of:

Long-standing friendship,

Strategic trust,

Shared aspirations for peace, development, and stability.

During interactions, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening military-to-military cooperation with Jordan, emphasizing a shared vision of a stable, peaceful, and secure region, especially amid evolving regional security challenges.

A Two-Day Visit of Strategic Importance

King Abdullah II’s two-day stay in Pakistan marks a significant step in enhancing bilateral ties. Historically bonded by faith, fraternity, and strategic alignment, Pakistan and Jordan continue to broaden their cooperation in defence, diplomacy, and regional security.
