The Glance to Azerbaijan-Iran bilateral ties for January 2022:

Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Iran Ali Alizada met Minister of Justice of Iran Amin Hossein Rahim on 11th January 2022. The sides stressed the importance attached by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Iran to the relations and the importance of further enhancing cooperation between the two countries as friendly and close neighbors in bilateral and international organizations. They talked about the work done in the field of justice, the effective links between the Ministries of Justice of the two countries, the projects implemented in both countries to improve the penitentiary system.

They also exchanged views on expanding cooperation between the judiciary of the two countries, increasing efforts to resolve legal issues, as well as the transfer of prisoners, the continuation of visits and meetings, legal assistance, and other issues.

On 12th January 2022, the meeting between the Attorney Generals of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran was held in Moscow. Along with that, the extradition of 21 Iranian prisoners including three women to Iran on the 19th of January 2022. The meeting of Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Iran was held with the Minister of Defense and Armed Forces logistics of Iran on 22nd January 2022.

On 24 January 2022, the Iranian delegation visited the liberated territories of Azerbaijan which were occupied by Armenia for 30 years. The next day, both sides laid the foundation of the automobile bridge over the Astarachay river.

The Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran Rostam Gasemi officially visited the Republic of Azerbaijan. he is also the co-chair of the Joint State commission between Azerbaijan and Iran.

On 25-26th January 2022, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense Colonel-General Zakir Hasanov officially visited Iran. Azerbaijan`s Minister of Defense, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, who is on an official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran, visited the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Tehran, the Ministry of Defense told AZERTAC.

Colonel General Zakir Hasanov laid flowers at the bust of national leader Heydar Aliyev in the embassy’s administrative building and honored his memory.

On 28th January 2022, a telephonic conversation was held between the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran. On Friday, the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Iran Jeyhun Bayramov and Hussein Amir  Abdullahian had a telephone conversation and expressed satisfaction with the development of “various aspects” of bilateral relations, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said. In particular, with the recent visits of Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Rustam Gasimi to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov to Iran and the agreements reached.

It was noted that the implementation of joint projects, and in particular the completion in 2022 of the construction of a new bridge across the Astarachay River, as well as a railway cargo terminal in the city of Astara, will have a positive impact on the development of bilateral ties.

It was also noted with satisfaction that the next meeting of the State Commission for Economic, Trade, and Humanitarian Cooperation between the two countries will be held in March this year in Baku.
