China welcomes progress in Russia-Afghan interim government ties

According to a Chinese Foreign Ministry official on Friday, China is pleased with the recent improvement in ties between Russia and the Afghan interim administration.

During a routine news conference, spokesperson Mao Ning made the comments in response to a question from the media regarding Russia’s official recognition of the Afghan interim government.

China always believes that Afghanistan should not be excluded from the international community as a traditional friend and close neighbor,” Mao stated, adding that China supports the international community in strengthening engagement and exchanges with the Afghan interim administration.

China supports Afghanistan’s efforts to fight terrorism and violence, aids in the country’s reconstruction and development, and pushes the Afghan interim government to actively address international concerns, all of which contribute to regional peace, stability, and prosperity, according to Mao.

According to Mao, China and Afghanistan have maintained diplomatic relations despite changes in the country’s internal and external circumstances.

“Since the Afghan interim government has been established, the two sides have played a positive role in keeping the normal operation of diplomatic missions in each other’s country and promoting the development of bilateral ties,” she stated.

According to Mao, China would continue to foster exchanges and collaboration with Afghanistan in a number of fields and maintain a foreign policy of friendship toward all Afghans.
