Russia Launches Unprecedented Aerial Assault:
Late on June 28, 2025, Russia launched an unprecedented air offensive against Ukraine, unleashing over 500 aerial weapons in what Kyiv termed the largest air attack of the three‑year war.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that the barrage included 477 drones and decoys, in addition to 60 missiles, parts of a broad assault spanning western, southern, and central regions.
The attack resulted in multiple civilian casualties across several regions. In Kherson, Kharkiv, and Dnipropetrovsk, local governors confirmed that three people were killed in each region due to drone strikes, while another individual died in an airstrike in Kostyantynivka.
In Lviv’s Drohobych area, a drone strike triggered a massive industrial fire and caused power outages across the city.
The assault also claimed the life of a Ukrainian F‑16 pilot whose aircraft was damaged while intercepting incoming threats.
This escalation in aerial bombardment comes amid growing concerns that diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain stalled.
Ukrainian forces described the June 28 attack as the “most massive airstrike” since Russia’s full‑scale invasion began in February 2022.
President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukrainian military officials decried the strike as a blatant disregard for civilian safety and called for broader international condemnation and action.
As global powers engage in tense talks, Ukraine’s leaders warn that words alone are not enough to deter further aggression.
Kyiv Calls for Stronger International Support
Ukraine’s leadership described the attack as the “most massive airstrike” since February 2022, when the war began.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged international partners to take stronger action, emphasizing that condemnations alone are insufficient to deter Moscow’s escalating campaign.
Kyiv continues to push for advanced air defense systems and increased military support from allies.
