According to auditors, public spending associated with the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris last summer came to about €6 billion. The French Alps will host the Winter Olympics in France in 2030.
French taxpayers paid little under €6 billion ($6.9 billion) for the 2024 Summer Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, according to a “initial estimate” issued Monday by the country’s auditing agency, the Cour de Comptes.
As France gets ready to host the Winter Olympics in five years, the auditors said there would be “heightened interest” in the first-ever announcement of actual data.
The two Games cost €2.77 billion to organize, including €1.4 billion on security, which included having almost 30,000 police officers and gendarmes on the streets of Paris every day, according to the study from the Cours de Comptes.
According to the auditors, additional €3.19 billion was spent on infrastructure work related to the Games, which took place from July 26 to August 11 and August 28 to September 8, respectively.
In 2024, Pierre Moscovici, the auditing body’s head, predicted that the state would have to pay “three, maybe four, five billion euros” for the athletic activities.
Since additional expenses are still unknown, a more thorough analysis will be released in October.
A follow-up study on the Games’ legacy will be released in 2026.
